Yellstn prk antiques
Chuck Gainan arranged for a wonderful tour of a collection of Yellowstone Parks antique vehicles located in a park facility in Gardiner. The collection is not open to the public but somehow Chuck was able to coerce the curator of the collection into a private showing for the GRCC. A big thank you to Chuck and the curators, unfortunately don’t remember their names.
The collection is comprised of some horse drawn stage coaches, people movers, road equipment & firefighting equipment along with many early 1900’s internal combustion park vehicles including several of the famous “Jammer” buses. All very well preserved in the climate controlled building. Several of the old Jammers had at some point been converted into work trucks used for a variety of tasked in the park.
Nearly all the self-powered vehicles were manufactured by the White Motor Company of Cleveland, Ohio.
These vehicles are maintained mostly by volunteers who come in and drain fluids and keep the vehicles in their well-preserved state. The comment was made that some of the “gearheads” in the GRCC might be willing to donate some time to come in and help with that process. If you are interested in doing this contact Chuck Gainan and he can put you in touch with the right people.
As always …….a good time was had by all!
